What exactly is the Trouble with Crystal? Life reflections of a crazy girl.
I once said that my life was so messed up, I wish I had a little green elf sitting on my shoulder telling me what to do. Well I have one friend who is the closest thing I’ve got to that little green elf. The night before I left for England, I was chatting on the phone with him and asked him what he thought my goals for Oxford should be. He said:
Seeing as how I am studying at Oxford, but not a registered Oxford student, don’t get to take any classes with Oxford students, and live in a house with Stanford students, it’s going to be very hard to reach out socially. But I’m determined that at the end of this term, even if I haven’t made any friends, you won’t be able to say that I didn’t try.
Happy May Day! Check back tomorrow for picture of Morris Dancing!

I certainly hope that you get to meet some Oxford students. It’s kind of lame that you have to stick with mostly Stanford kids…
Hi Crystal,
Thank you for your kind message. I am doing better now I don’t know how you happen to stumble upon my blog. Hope you accomplish your goals at Oxford
Btw, you go to Stanford? I go to Caltech, your neighbor further south. Yay California!
I went from a Catholic School to Public High School where I knew no one!! I decided to say hi to every single person I locked eyes with, if they said Hi back, I stopped and said,” my name is Fran, what’s yours?” It worked. I made several good friends, and knew even more casually. Give it a try, it worked for me.
I will give it a go and report the results back to you later! I think the hardest part will be getting myself out of my room, outside of the Stanford house, and actually into University events
Hi Kara,
Glad to hear that you’re doing better. I’ve heard that Caltech is beautiful but have never been there. I’ve also heard its extremely intense.
